Meaty Pasta Bake

When I was young, the dinner choices were, well, limited

In fact, if my wife and I sat and compared dinners growing up (I lived in the City, she lived in upstate New York), we would be very close

Food back then, well, it  was simple

I remember a treat for us was Hamburger Helper, there were all different types, Italian flavored, cheeseburger, etc

We had a busy week ahead of us and I was trying to come up with a hearty meal that would carry us for more then one dinner

So I thought I could apply the Hamburger Helper principle to make a delicious and filling meal

Start with 2 onions, 4 garlic cloves, 10 ounces of frozen chopped spinach (thawed and drained) and 1 teaspoon each of kosher salt and ground black pepper

Heat 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in a pan over medium heat

Peel and chop your onions and garlic and add to the pan with half of the salt and pepper

Cook 6-8 minutes until tender

Add in your ground meat, along with the other half of the salt and pepper

We are using 3 pounds of ground turkey. Break the meat up with a spatula as it cooks, into smaller bits

If using ground beef drain off some of the excess fat after the meat cooks

Once cooked, add in the chopped spinach, 1/2 cup of Worcestershire Sauce and 1/4 cup of Gravy Master

Fold to combine and remove from the heat

Preheat your oven to 350 F

Cook 1 pound of your favorite pasta according to the directions, drain and set aside

Lets add cheese

I’m using 8 ounces of grated white cheddar, 4 ounces of grated yellow cheddar and 4 ounces of mozzeralla

I add the mozzeralla in for some stringy goodness

Add your cheese to the pan and fold into the meat mixture

Lightly spray a baking dish with cooking oil

Add some of your meat mixture, followed by pasta and repeat until the ingredients are all used

Now for a little topping

Whisk together 1/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup of plain breadcrumb and a tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley

Sprinkle over the top of your pasta and bake for around 15 minutes or until the top is lightly browned

Hearty and delicious!
