A sweet, tart and fresh cranberry sauce with a hint of warm spice that will compliment your favorite holiday recipes!
Let’s face it… many of us open a can or two of cranberry sauce during the hectic holidays and happily serve the gelatinous cylinder to our families
And there’s nothing wrong with jellied cranberry in a can but once you try this quick homemade version it’ll be SO hard to go back
There are only a few ingredients. Fresh or frozen whole cranberries, a large navel orange, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg
Keep in mind – we’re trying to make this a super easy alternative, so if you don’t have a cinnamon stick, use ground cinnamon. If you don’t have whole nutmeg to grate, use powdered! The same great flavors will still be there
Rinse the cranberries and add to a medium saucepan
Add in the sugar, whole cinnamon stick, the zest and juice of the orange and some grated nutmeg
A quick note – since you’ll need one full cup of orange juice, you may need to top it off with another juiced orange or just some OJ from your fridge. Again, we’re trying for ease
Stir the ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium heat
Lower the heat to medium low and simmer for about 10 minutes. This is the fun part… the cranberries ‘pop’ as they cook down. It’s the simple things, right??
Remove the cinnamon stick and mash lightly
Cool a bit and serve either room temperature or chilled
This is one condiment that’s worthy to go alongside a holiday spread!
Enjoy!
