A mini burger, commonly called Sliders, covered in gooey cheese topped with mustard, ketchup and pickles that is the perfect hand held bite!!
Anyway you make them, these little hand held mini sandwiches just get scooped up!
I’m making a big batch here, so I have a 3 pound family pack of ground turkey (use whatever ground meat you prefer)
Note: This recipe will yield roughly 24 sliders which is great for a party
Why are they called Sliders??
There are many different opinions… the most popular being that these mini burgers were cooked in so much grease on the flat top, you’d just pop them in your mouth and they would slide on down!
You can also make this and use half up front and freeze half for another day
Here’s the list of what we’ll need
Measure out 1 cup of bread crumbs, 1/2 cup of ketchup, 1/4 cup of Dijon mustard, 3 eggs, 1/4 cup of Worcestershire Sauce, 1 tablespoon Gravy Master and 1 teaspoon each of kosher salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder and onion powder
Add all of the ingredients to the meat except for the eggs
Beat the eggs and add to the meat mixture
This will make the mixing easier
Using your hands, fold all ingredients together until combined
If your meat mixture feels too loose you can add a little bread crumb at a time until the mixture binds
I’m using dinner rolls for these sliders, so about 1/4 cup of mixture will make a nice burger that will fit on the roll
Scoop out as many as you can fit on a sheet pan to start. Then roll them and press flat into a burger
I like to put a thumbprint in each burger so they don’t puff up while cooking
Sprinkle each slider with a pinch of kosher salt and ground black pepper
Chill for 10-15 minutes before cooking
Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan over medium heat, until just smoking
Put in as many sliders that fit without touching and season the other side
Cook around 4 minutes
You are looking for a nice crust here when you flip
Cook another 3-4 minutes
This is our favorite way to top the sliders
But feel free to make it your own! We use American cheese, use whatever cheese is your favorite
I cut the cheese in half since these are smaller burgers
Cover and melt the cheese about 1 minute more
My cast iron is so big I use a metal sheet pan as a lid
Hey, you do what you have to, right?
YUM!!!
Okay, now for the assembly
I have cut some dinner rolls in half
On the bottom I’m putting a bit of yellow mustard
Next up are the burgers, ketchup and then pickles
Now let’s add a lid and dig in!!
