Summer Sangria

Summertime… and the living’s easy…

Sure is!  Especially with a chilled glass of Summer Sangria in your hand!

Let’s mix up a few ingredients and get this party started!

I’m using a Pinot Noir but any light dry red will work.  You’ll also need some brandy, simple syrup and citrus fruit

Shh… don’t tell PopPop I’m using Hennessy.  He’d be annoyed that such a high quality brandy was being mixed with anything other than a nice wood-burning fire and Pavarotti

In a pitcher, add orange, lemon and lime slices with 1/2 cup of simple syrup, 1/4 cup of brandy and a bottle of chilled Pinot Noir

Note: simple syrup is equal parts of water and white sugar simmered until dissolved and then chilled ~ we make ahead and store in the fridge

Another note: You may prefer a sweeter sangria, in that case add in a bit more simple syrup.  We’re dry kind of people and don’t like it too sweet

Stir gently.  At this point, you can make ahead and store in the fridge until your guests come

When serving, add in ice and top each drink with a splash of seltzer

Now you’ll know why summertime living is so easy!
