Now here’s a salad to get excited about!
Taco Salad with seasoned meat, crisp salad ingredients, sharp cheese and crunchy Doritos??
Yes, I said Doritos!
Bring this tasty side to your next get-together and you can be sure that you and your recipe will be invited back!
Let’s start by browning the meat
I’m using a package of turkey meat, but you can also use ground beef
Break up the meat into small pieces and cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes
Drain if there is any liquid or fat
Add in 1 tablespoon of taco seasoning
You can use store bought or easily make it yourself!
Simply Sunday’s Taco Seasoning
Cook for a few more minutes making sure the meat is completely cooked through and the spices are incorporated
Remove from heat and set aside to cool
Chop one head of iceberg lettuce, one small red onion and about a cup and a half of tomatoes & toss together in a large mixing bowl
Shred 8 ounces of sharp cheddar and slice a 6 ounce can of drained black olives
I toss the olives & cooled meat mixture in now but wait until the end to mix in the cheddar. I find it easier to combine
Next, add in a 16 ounce bottle of Thousand Island Salad Dressing & toss well
Now it’s time to add in the cheese…
At this point, I chill the salad for 20-30 minutes
My little helper loves to be the “Dorito cruncher”
Crunch up a 10 ounce bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos and incorporate into the salad ingredients just before serving
Watch it disappear!
