Blood Orange Martini

These refreshing Blood Orange Martinis are the perfect cocktail for date night with their sweet, tart flavors and beautiful crimson color!

We were at dinner at our favorite local restaurant and the woman at the table next to us ordered a Blood Orange Martini

I was staring  (almost embarrassingly, just ask my husband) at this magnificent looking drink

Had I not already ordered a glass of wine, I would have for sure had one of my own

I’ve been obsessively thinking about this cocktail for weeks.  So last night, my husband was planning to take me for a happy hour drink and as luck would have it, the bad Northeast weather prevented us from going

Good thing I’m not a quitter.  Today I picked up a few lovely in-season blood oranges and the rest is history.  Needless to say, I’m a happy girl right now

How is a blood orange different from a navel orange?

Blood oranges are slightly more bitter than navel oranges.  They also have a hint of raspberry-like flavor. Blood oranges are in season from December through May, though the exact months vary depending on what type of blood orange you’re buying

Juice the blood oranges and measure out the vodka, triple sec and a squeeze of fresh lime

Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake, shake, shake and pour into chilled martini glasses

Garnish with a slice of blood orange
