Two cocktail glasses with grapefruit, a salted rim, lime wheels for garnish and fresh limes in the background

Salty Dog

Sweet & tart ruby red grapefruit with a hint of fresh lime and a salted rim make this vodka cocktail lip puckering good!

A few weeks ago, we went to local festival and I ordered a Salty Dog

I’m not gonna lie… I fell head over heels in love with this cocktail

A little sweet, a little tart and rimmed with salt?  Yeah.  Good stuff

Don’t judge,  but I’ve been thinking about this drink every weekend

SO… I had to recreate the cocktail at home to share with my friends

Did I mention it’s super easy to mix up?

Dip the rims of two cocktail glasses in water then dip in salt

I used Maldon Sea salt because it has a light, flaky texture and has a pure sea salt taste.  It’s a perfect finishing salt and works nicely with this drink

If you don’t see it in your grocery store, you can find it here:

Maldon Sea Salt

Fill the glasses with ice and pour in 2 ounces of vodka, 1 ounce of fresh lime juice and 4 ounces of ruby red grapefruit juice

Garnish each with a wheel of fresh lime and serve!

  1. I love grapefruit juice, but never think about making this cocktail. Maybe because no one else likes grapefruit juice! Have you tried it with freshly squeezed? I’m wondering how different the taste would be, or the sweetness. Here’s to festivals serving cocktails!!!

    1. I’m sure freshly squeezed grapefruit would be delicious! We were thirsty and didn’t want to wait! lol!
