Twix Poke Cake

Moist cake topped with gooey caramel, creamy chocolate pudding, whipped cream & Twix candy pieces

That certainly sounds like a party to me!  Our son just celebrated his birthday and requested this cake that is based on one of his favorite chocolate bars.  So, as parents, we had to oblige

Not to mention, Twix bars are my all time favorite candy bars as well  Our kids always save a few for me from their Halloween stash or their Easter baskets.  A small price to pay for my efforts, wouldn’t you think??

Probably the best part of this cake is that it’s so simple to make

Many of you know, we like to make most things from scratch

However… this dessert is really easy because we’re using pre-packaged ingredients

Easy and ridiculously tasty?  Sign me up!  Even my non-cake loving husband agrees that this cake is the bomb!

Let’s start by following the directions for your favorite yellow box cake

While the cake is still warm, poke evenly spaced holes with the handle of a wooden spoon

Pour 14 ounces of caramel over the cake, making sure to pour some into each hole

I’m using a squeeze bottle of caramel for simplicity, but you can also use jarred caramel sauce

Let the cake cool a bit while we make chocolate instant pudding.  Again, follow the directions on the box of pudding as different brands vary

Spoon the pudding over the cake and spread into a layer with an offset spatula

You can use whatever whipped cream topping that you like.  I’m using an 8 ounce container of defrosted cool whip because I’m trying to keep this easy peasy

Spread the whipped topping over the pudding layer.  At this point, I like to chill the cake a bit.  You can make this the day ahead, cover and refrigerate until you’re ready for serving

Now, for the best part… the Twix bars!

I have two 3 ounce Twix bars.  I froze them to make smashing them up a little easier

Using a mallet, lightly tap the candy bar while still in the wrapper  Don’t pulverize it, we still want some big chunks of candy

Sprinkle the Twix candy over the top layer of the cake

Chill for at least two hours
